About

Megumi Tanaka grew up in Cupertino, CA in the '90s. They learned to code and design at a young age, using PHP templates for dynamic content. In the '00s, they published Photoshop tutorials and Xanga themes using handwritten CSS. Their early obsession with the web as an infinite, fluid canvas shaped their philosophy on designing for screens you cannot see.

In the '10s, they worked as UX Designer in San Francisco, eventually growing to a hybrid Product Manager and Product Designer. They worked on everything from problem space discovery to visual design polish for companies in fintech, real estate tech, productivity tooling, and beauty booking marketplaces.

In the '20s, they shifted to design engineering at the front of the front end across product, marketing, e‑commerce, and editorial websites. Select clients include Song Tea & Ceramics, The Los Angeles Times, Cosmopolitan, Parsons, Front (via Fuzzco), Span (via Studio Jud), Stella, Cyklar, Flask & Field, and Nuance Labs. They have taught at Parsons School of Design, ilovecreatives, and Index in NYC. They care a lot about data privacy, accessibility, and design systems.
